ABOUT THE MATCH

The change in format did nothing to mitigate what's been a horrendous start at their new home base in Lucknow, and now Afghanistan are looking at a must-win game to keep the T20I series alive after their 0-3 ODI whitewash. To do that, they'll need a good, hard look at their batting which has come under serious scrutiny, exacerbated by the failure of their spinners to win them matches on their own.

Certainly, that's been the case on this tour as the West Indies have negotiated Rashid Khan and co. with a degree of authority. Rashid, in fact, went for 34 off his four overs on a pitch that should've suited him. Even going back to the ODI series, Rashid failed to inspire with a disappointing two wickets from three matches. His lack of wicket-taking form might well be at the forefront of Afghanistan's problems.

Compare that to Kieron Pollard, under whose leadership West Indies won their first ODI series in five years, before breaking their T20I duck in 2019. And while Pollard hasn't really set the stage on fire with his own performances, he played a useful hand in the previous match with both bat and ball.

But, by rule of thumb, the gulf between the teams in this format isn't as great as in 50 overs. So it won't be prudent to write off Afghanistan completely, especially considering their 12-match winning streak that was broken only a couple of months back. They'll need their talismanic captain, and their batsmen, to step up though.

What: Afghanistan vs West Indies, 2nd T20I, November 16, 1900 IST

Where: Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow

What to expect: Hopefully not a delayed start due to excessive insect repellent, which did the trick by the way in the first T20I, so it's an acceptable tradeoff. Nevertheless, expect the pitch to play similarly - so it won't get any easier for Afghanistan's batsmen to turn things around.

TEAM NEWS

Afghanistan: Afghanistan don't necessarily need too many changes, although they might look at replacing the struggling Hazratullah Zazai at the top.

West Indies: Fabian Allen's knee injury, which had him limping off the field, may jeopardize his participation. It could open the door for Khary Pierre, or even Lendl Simmons. Hetmyer's form remains a concern, but the thing in his favour is that the team's doing well, so there's an extra buffer for failure.
Teams:
Afghanistan Squad: Hazratullah Zazai, Rahmanullah Gurbaz(w), Ibrahim Zadran, Asghar Afghan, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Nabi, Gulbadin Naib, Rashid Khan(c), Fareed Malik, Naveen-ul-Haq, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Sharafuddin Ashraf, Yamin Ahmadzai, Karim Janat, Javed Ahmadi, Sayed Shirzad
West Indies Squad: Brandon King, Evin Lewis, Shimron Hetmyer, Denesh Ramdin(w), Kieron Pollard(c), Sherfane Rutherford, Fabian Allen, Jason Holder, Hayden Walsh, Kesrick Williams, Sheldon Cottrell, Keemo Paul, Alzarri Joseph, Lendl Simmons, Khary Pierre

Hard man Boucher inherits job of softening Rabada

www.cricketbettingtipsfree.net Cricket is no longer the sport Mark Boucher used to play, but as South Africa's coach he has inherited the challenges of the modern game. And at the top of that list is a problem bursting with talent and skill - but who explodes with poorly directed aggression too often for his own good and for the good of his team. Kagiso Rabada will miss the series-deciding fourth Test at the Wanderers next week while he serves a ban for his behaviour towards Joe Root. After clean-bowling the England captain with the best ball delivered on the first day of the third Test at St George's Park on Thursday, Rabada celebrated loudly and passionately within millimetres of the dismissed batter. That earned him a level one conviction for "using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his or her dismissal during an international match". He did not contest the charge. His sentence of ...

Ngidi stars in South Africa's thrilling last-ball win

At the innings break, there were two ways to look at 178 -- the target South Africa set England in the first T20I at Buffalo Park. On one hand, it needed a record run-chase at the ground for England to win the game, and on the other, it roared praise for their genius at the death, where Chris Jordan and Mark Wood combined to concede only eight runs in the last two overs and effectively won their side the elusive yet non-quantifiable "momentum". Not that it mattered at this small ground, where wind often decided whether the ball will be caught in the deep or sail over for a six. England famously botched the run-chase, slipping from 132/2 after 14.2 overs to hand South Africa a one-run win, and a 1-0 series lead, in a thrilling last-ball finish. Just how did England lose this? Lungi Ngidi. And a bit of panic. Ngidi bowled the 18th and the 20th overs of the run-chase, giving away only 10 runs and picking three wickets. That it came after his first two overs had gone...
