Why Gujarat Titans and SunRisers Hyderabad are greater than sum of their parts

In my past columns, I've often mentioned the huge importance of the IPL auction, suggesting that half of the tournament can be won on the auction table. I still believe this is true, but as the 2022 IPL plays itself out, Cbtf I also believe we are witnessing some excellent examples of why the auction is only 50 percent of the equation.

After this year's auction, many cricket pundits (including me) felt that Gujarat Titans looked the weakest of all the teams. On paper, they lacked batting fire power and the right combinations, and the playoffs looked a distant possibility even before Jason Roy pulled out of the tournament citing bubble fatigue.

The Titans juggernaut has rolled on relentlessly since their opening win over Lucknow Super Giants, recording six wins in their first seven games to top the table comfortably ahead of other more fancied teams. How are they managing
